Strettamente collegata alle ricerche storiche e d’archivio per lo studio dell’esperienza editoriale del Liberal nel quadro del Progetto Reviving The Liberal: Literature and Politics between Britain and Italy, 1821-23,  la sezione Case parlanti intende offrire una mappatura delle dimore toscane e liguri di Percy e Mary Shelley e di Lord Byron, mirata alla creazione di percorsi culturali rivolti alla cittadinanza e alle scuole. I comuni coinvolti sono quelli di Pisa, San Giuliano Terme, Bagni di Lucca, Livorno e Lerici, insieme a Viareggio, luogo dove il corpo di Shelley fu restituito dal mare dopo il naufragio del suo Ariel.

 

Le schede illustrative forniscono informazioni storiche sulle dimore e sui periodi che i poeti inglesi vi trascorsero, arricchite da contenuti multimediali con vari richiami al territorio e al patrimonio monumentale: accanto a brani tratti da opere poetiche e in prosa che furono scritte nelle dimore o stralci di lettere e pagine di diario nelle quali si registrano impressioni su luoghi e personaggi locali, le schede offrono anche testimonianze iconografiche come stampe, ritratti, fotografie d’epoca e dei nostri giorni.

As part of the broader research project Reviving The Liberal: Literature and Politics between Britain and Italy, 1821–23, this section explores the Tuscan and Ligurian residences of Percy Bysshe and Mary Shelley and Lord Byron. Closely tied to historical and archival investigations into the editorial journey of The Liberal, Talking Houses offers an interactive map of the poets’ homes in Pisa, San Giuliano Terme, Bagni di Lucca, Livorno, Lerici, as well as Viareggio, where Shelley’s body was returned by the sea after the wreck of his boat, the Ariel.

Designed to engage both local communities and schools, the project aims to create cultural itineraries that bring these literary landmarks to life. Each entry provides historical context about the residence and the time the poets spent there, enriched with multimedia content including references to local geography and its architectural heritage. Visitors will find excerpts from works written in these homes, passages from letters and diaries reflecting impressions of local places and people, as well as visual materials such as prints, portraits, and old or contemporary photographs.
